EHS Coordinator

Main Function

Assists EHS Superintendent to:

  • Implement corporate environment and safety program for prevention and correction of unsafe working conditions and activities utilizing corporate resources of the industrial processes, mechanics, ergonomics, engineering, chemistry, industrial safety and health regulations and best practices.
  • Conduct EHS training for all plant employees and contractors according to Corporate policy.
  • Review MSDS’s for all materials (particularly new suppliers and products) for all environmental issues and employee exposures. Determine how the exposure occurs, warning properties of the chemical and terminology in the form, warnings, fire hazards and burning carbon black characterization. Have the SDS scanned and added to the MSDS online data base.
  • Review hazard identification and methods of remediation to assure protection and compliance.
  • Identify and help implement appropriate control devices for machinery as directed by EHS-Supt.
  • Identify and help implement best practices and ensures implementation as directed by EHS-Supt. where appropriate.
  • Ensure the integrity, proper storage locations and completion of all company documents are maintained and implemented.
  • Additional duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities relating to Environmental Health & safety Trainer

Training

  • Maintain at 100% and continually update all training files and matrixes including safety, environmental, ISO, and departmental procedures
  • Conduct new hire EHS training and contractor EHS orientation.
  • Review, evaluate, audit, document and provide all required monthly EHS training in each department to achieve 100% compliance.
  • Conduct CPR/First Aid Training, Forklift (assist), Boom/Scissor Lift and other EHS related certification training.

Other Administrative Duties

  • Assist with random drug and alcohol testing administration
  • Assist with monthly safety committee meetings and tours
  • Accompany injured employees to medical facilities
  • Maintain OSHA and Worker’s Compensation files and file claims and reports as required
  • Maintain MSDS Online electronic records and distribute as necessary
  • Provide assistance in maintaining ISO 14001 records and standards
  • Assist with plant visitors and meetings held in safety center
  • Participates in, supports and ensures completeness of investigation of all incidents involving injury or property damage or the potential for either, root cause analysis and accident reports.
  • Schedule and conduct equipment Inspection / Calibration of all EHS related equipment and maintain 100% record keeping; i.e. gas monitors, air breather boxes, annual certification of Grade D air supply by 3rd Party, SCBA(s), PPE such as fall protection, ladders, LOTO and PRCS and other related equipment.

· Post in each department the monthly statistics PowerPoint presentations sent by Corporate EHS

· Conduct daily walk-through of plant for viewing of safe practices, housekeeping, ladder safety, PPE use

· Escort and transport personnel with injuries to the local physician’s office, or contact 911 if necessary

· Insist on housekeeping of work areas and the plant site to avoid any accumulations of carbon black which would constitute potential fugitive emissions

· Participate in Audits (internal and external) and demonstrate competency of responses to Auditor requests for documented training and compliance

· Follow corporate guidelines on purchase of PPE styles and approved types only coordinated with Houston EHS/Purchasing for best price allocation

· Establish and control the boot purchase program by employees

· Establish and control the safety glass program by employees

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in occupational health or environmental science, preferred

· Entry Level or 1 to 3 years relevant work experience

· Proficient with computerized, integrated information systems, MS Office, and database processing

· Excellent communicator, both oral and written

· Must cooperate with and support EHS and Plant Personnel.

· Minimum OSHA 500 and 501 course completion

· Must have valid driver’s license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
